Brodix ToC InvitationaL keeps growing as Dupuy, Kouba & Kearney enter event.

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (MAY 25, 2002) - The fourth Brodix Tournament of Champions (ToC) invitational for winged 360-cubic-inch sprint cars and stars, set for Sunday, August 4, at the Knoxville Raceway, keeps growing as entries were received this week from Michael Dupuy of Louisiana, Jimmy Kouba of Minnesota, and John Kearney of Kansas. Dupuy, with wrenches Rob Hart & Cathy Barrows, is the current American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) point leader, while Kouba is the defending WISSOTA Promoters Association champion and Kearney claimed the 2000 Knoxville Raceway point title.

Dupuy, with ASCS wins already this season at Kilgore, Tex., and New Leesville, La., is entered in Scott Chilcutt's potent mIn Motorsports Management Snyder-powered Eagle chassis sprinter. Kouba's Stevenson/Woodke sprinter is sponsored by Justice Brothers-Gillund Enterprises, Adair Electric and Ritzer's Roseville Auto Body. Last week's Knoxville feature winner, John Kearney, is entered in his dad's R.F. Fisher Electric Wesmar-powered Maxim sprinter.

Other recent entries include Knoxville regulars Doran Doty in the Plate Electronics J&J/Ostrich, Tim Deaver in his own SuperWash/Deaver's Blackhawk/RJH, Jamie Ferrell in the Sneller Heating & Plumbing Twister/Ostrich, and Johnny Anderson in the Wright Chevrolet/B&B Hardwood Floors Eagle/McCuen sprinter. The Brodix Tournament of Champions will feature ten cars each from Knoxville, ASCS, Empire Super Sprints (ESS), and United Racing Club (URC), and three cars each from WISSOTA, Nebraska Sprint Car Association (NSCA) and the Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW).

According to ToC coordinator Tom Schmeh, "It is very exciting to see how the ToC has been re-energized this year with J.V. Brotherton's involvement at Brodix, and the Marion County Fairboard's choice of date as the Sunday before the Mopar Parts 410 Nationals. This whole thing started in 1997 when URC's Bob Miller sent Knoxville's Ralph Capitani a proposal about URC running the legendary track in their historic 50th anniversary season. When Bob called me, it was only natural to involve ESS that year, too. The next year we went to Earl Baltes' Eldora Speedway with the three original clubs and the ASCS national and regional tours. And, in 1999, the Jarvis brothers at Limaland were wonderful hosts with the Sprints On Dirt (SOD) and National Racing Alliance (NRA) clubs involved. Now, after two years off, we have one common set of rules, seven sanctions participating and the possibility of running before one of the biggest crowds of the year in 360 c.i. sprint car racing!"
