ANDERSON, IN, May 27, 2000 - David Steele had the Little 500 locked in his grasp, clearly the fastest car in the race, until lap 482. He was so quick he overcame a one lap penalty for allegedly working on his car during a red flag and had a one lap cushion over second place Jim Childers. But it was not to be. The Tampa driver's car ran out of fuel on lap 482 and Childers quickly closed that lap advantage. By lap 495 he had unlapped himself over Steele and three laps later had the the lead. Chet Fillip finished second with Eric Gordon in third, one lap down.
Steele had accumulated 498 laps before he became fumigated and secured
fourth. Three laps down in fifth was Todd Kane.
