Tech & Hollywood Hills Kick off Busy Stretch for O'Reilly ASCS

TULSA, Okla. (June 28, 2004) - The O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and Classic Trailers kicks off a busy month of July at a pair of the Southwest's finest racing venues beginning this Thursday night.

The series kicks off an early weekend on Thursday night at Lubbock's Tech Motor Speedway, one of the best-kept secrets in all of dirt track racing. From there, the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour moves on to the luxury of Hollywood Hills Speedway in San Felipe Pueblo, NM, where it will be joined by the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region.

The drivers on the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour will battle through fourteen scheduled nights of racing in the month of July at thirteen different tracks throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Tennessee and Missouri. Included among that stretch of activity is the 12th Annual COMP Cams ASCS Speedweek, which is set to kick off on July 9 at Batesville, AR.

Tech Motor Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval will serve up its third night of O'Reilly ASCS National Tour action in 2004, as current series point leader Travis Rilat of Forney, TX, swept the May 21-22 doubleheader in Lubbock.

The Friday-Saturday double at Hollywood Hills Speedway will mark the second time in three years the series has battled atop the three-eighths mile clay oval. Michael Dupuy and Garry Lee Maier split victory honors in the series Fourth of July weekend stop at Hollywood Hills in 2002.

Rilat, the defending series champion, enters the three-day weekend of racing action with a meager six point lead over Hooks, TX, ace Gary Wright. Rilat has raced to victory lane five times in ten features, while Wright has scored three victories. Both drivers have notched top-ten finishes in all ten features contested thus far.

With seven top-five finishes in the last eight features, 2001 series champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, is just 44 markers off the pace in fourth, while Bixby, Oklahoma's Darren Stewart, who has posted top-ten finishes in all ten features, is ranked fourth. Bidding for a second ASCS National title, the series initial champion, Garry Lee Maier, enters the weekend fifth in points.

Other contenders expected for the weekend include Toby Brown, Jason Martin, Jimmy Taylor and Brodix Rookie of the Year contenders A.G. Rains, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Natalie Sather.

Mike Dreiling will lead the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region forces into the Hollywood Hills double. Other top Rocky Mountain shoes include defending series champion Randi Miller, along with Keith Rauch, Eric Miller, Jake Pierson, Jace Pennetta, Jeremy Sheaffer and Geoff Dodge among others.

Thursday night's card at Tech Motor Speedway is set to go green at 8:00 p.m. Tech Motor Speedway is located south of Lubbock on US 87 to FM 1585, then east to Frontage Road, then 0.3 miles north, then east. For additional information, contact the track at 806-748-5074.

Both Friday and Saturday night's racing action at Hollywood Hills Speedway is set to go green at 7:00 p.m. Hollywood Hills Speedway is located between Albuquerque and Santa Fe off I-25 Exit 252. For more information, contact the track at 877-529-2946.

The 2004 O'Reilly ASCS National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and Classic Trailers consists of nearly 40 nights of racing at 20 different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.
