BLOOMINGTON, IN (May 25, 2003) - An evening of racing at Bloomington Speedway is a tremendous entertainment value every week; but, on May 30, it can be an even better buy. The KARTON KING STORES have coupons good for $3.00 off of grandstand admission. Their supplies of these coupons are limited, so get yours early. When you pick up your coupon, do the clerk a favor and suggest that they save one of the coupons for themselves. They'll thank you for it; and so will we.
While the price is low, this is no low-budget show. A full program of non winged sprint cars, O'Neal Wood Products modifieds, and Tire & Wheel Center super stocks will be presented.
Kevin Briscoe has won three feature events at Bloomington Speedway so far this season; but he holds only a six point edge over Kevin Thomas. The balance of the top five are Justin Marvel (-29), Kenny Carmichael (-37), and Jason Knoke (-42).
Each of these drivers has his own story. It's starting to look like Briscoe will be in Danny Roberts 21R most of the season. However, this may not make a lot of difference as the cars are similar (except for color); and Kevin's father, Dick Briscoe, is maintaining this car as he did the familiar number 5.
Kevin Thomas is racing out what he says will be his final season as a sprint car driver; and he would of course like to close out his career with another Bloomington Speedway track championship. Of course, Thomas has announced his retirement before. I'm not certain that anyone will believe it until he's been out of action for a year or so.
Justin Marvel lost a few points Friday night when he got tangled up with Kurt Gross and Derek Davidson and wound up on his side.
In the O'Neal Wood Products modified division, Ray Humphrey holds a 16 point advantage over Shelby Miles. Jesse Cramer in third is 29 points behind Humphrey while Lee Hobbs and Bachelor Middle School eighth grader Jeff Bland, Jr. are 34 and 44 points behind respectively.
The top five in the Tire & Wheel Center super stock division are defending champion Greg Kendall, Lee Hobbs (-13), Chris Deweese (-28), Chris Hillman (-28), and Jack Frye (-29). Only one point separates third through fifth place in the super stock points race.
Pit gates will open at 4:30 PM, the grandstand gates will open at 5:30 PM, hot laps will start at 6:30 PM, and racing will begin at 7:30 PM. General admission is $10 for this event (children are admitted free to the grandstand when accompanied by a paying adult); and pit admission is $20. Coolers are permitted; but glass containers aren't. Overnight camping is also permitted.
