Danley a McCool ASCS Midwest Region Master

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (May 27, 2005) -- Jason Danley took quick advantage of race long leader Chad Humston's late misfortune then battled past Jake Peters to top Friday night's 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Midwest Region feature at Junction Motor Speedway.

For the triumph, Danley picked up an extra $200 from Freedom Lending as well as a right rear tire from Triple R Tires.

"We were getting killed on the restarts, we just couldn't seem to get going but we finally got a good one on that last restart," Danley commented in victory lane. "I knew the bottom was getting faster, actually I guess it was Jake (Peters) that showed us that a little earlier and we took advantage of it."

While Danley led the feature field to the green flag from the pole position, it was outside front row starter Humston who gunned into the early lead. Humston set the pace throughout the opening twenty rounds as Danley and Peters diced in spirited fashion for second position. The battling duo closed on Humston on a pair of occasions as lapped traffic came into play only to have the caution flag fly.

The race's final caution flew with just five laps remaining when Joe Beaver looped his machine exiting turn four and collected Stu Snyder, sending both machines pitside.

Humston's machine sputtered on the ensuing restart and the 18-year-old's first potential ASCS victory went by the wayside with an empty fuel tank. Danley and Peters charged by, with Peters racing to the front to lead the 21st round.

Danley returned the favor the next time around however, and led the way to the checkered flag to capture the victory aboard the Lewis-powered Cubby's Truck Stop No. 82 Stealth. Brian Brown, who spent the bulk of the race outside the top five, made a late charge to snare the runner-up position as well as the series point lead, with Gregg Bakker making a late move to take the show position.

Peters sputtered across the line with a low fuel tank as well to salvage fourth, with Billy Alley rounding out the top five. Don Droud, Jr., Toby Chapman, 16th-starter Jason Martin, 17th-starter Johnn Cressman and 15th-starter Mike Chadd completed the top ten.

Bakker, Humston, Danley and Peters topped heat race action for the 30-car field, with Chadd edging Martin to win the 15-lap B Main.
