Rocky Mountain National Speedway on Tap for ASCS Rocky Mountain Region

TULSA, Okla. (July 18, 2005) -- The American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region fires back into action this Saturday night with its only appearance of the season at Rocky Mountain National Speedway in Commerce City, CO.

Following a rugged three-race stretch of racing action through South Dakota and Wyoming, Snohomish, WA, native Gary Taylor leads the series into the weekend, holding a 38-point advantage over Thornton, CO, shoe Eric Miller.

With one feature win under his belt this season, Taylor maintained the series point lead with finishes of third, fourth and ninth during the recent weekend triple. Now residing in Wheat Ridge, CO, Taylor can move one step closer to his first ASCS Rocky Mountain Region title with a strong outing Saturday night at Rocky Mountain National Speedway.

A 2003 ASCS Rocky Mountain Region feature winner at Rocky Mountain National Speedway, Miller will try to cut into Taylor's point lead Saturday night. Shooting for his first ASCS Rocky Mountain Region title as well, Miller has finished among the top three in series points during each of the past four years.

Just 58 points off Taylor's pace and 20 markers behind Miller is 20-year-old Bellvue, CO, shoe Jake Pierson, who captured his first series feature win earlier this season. Just four more points back in fourth is 52-year-old Rookie contender Bob Schaeffer of New Castle, CO, by way of Florida.

Denver's Jeff Heffner enters Saturday's card fifth in points, with the balance of the current top ten including Scott Milan (Fort Collins, CO), John Jacob (Aurora, CO), 15-year-old Rookie contender Josh Fellows (Longmont, CO), Joe Wagner (Denver, CO) and 2001 series champion Nick Haygood (Centennial, CO).

Saturday's action atop the semi-banked, 3/8-mile Rocky Mountain National Speedway dirt oval is slated to get under way at 6:00 p.m.

Rocky Mountain National Speedway is located east of Denver off I-70 Exit 286 (Tower Rd.), then 6.5 miles north, then one mile west on 88th, then 0.5 mile north on Buckley Road. For more information, contact the track at 303-371-1600.

The 2005 ASCS Rocky Mountain Region slate consists of 19 events at ten different tracks throughout Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, South Dakota and Wyoming.

In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, the Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South, Rocky Mountain and Midwest Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction more than 100 night of racing in 2005 at approximately 50 different racetracks throughout at least 16 different states.
