ASCS Rocky Mountain Region Season Finale Saturday at Gillette

TULSA, Okla. (September 19, 2006) -- The American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region will put the wraps on the 2006 season with Saturday night's season championship event atop the semi-banked, 1/3-mile Gillette Thunder Speedway clay oval in Gillette, WY.

And at the conclusion of Saturday night's event, Patrick Bourke of Edwards, CO, will officially become the series sixth different champion in as many years, following in the championship steps of Gary Taylor (2005), Keith Rauch (2004), Randi Miller (2003), Mike Dreiling (2002) and Nick Haygood (2001).

Holding a 162-point lead entering the season finale, Bourke already has the championship locked up on the strength of a dozen top-ten feature finishes in 16 events.

Denver's Jeff Heffner enters the event holding down the runner-up slot in points, 48 markers ahead of 17-year-old Josh Fellows of Loveland, CO. Sixteen-year-old rookie shoe Ricky Montgomery of Lakewood, CO, has climbed all the way up to fourth in points, just 14 points ahead of Thornton, CO, racer Keith Rauch.

After three consecutive runner-up point finishes, Eric Miller of Thornton, CO, enters the finale ranked sixth, a meager three points ahead of Rock Springs, WY, racer Mark Sweet. John Jacob of Aurora, CO, is currently eighth, with Nick Haygood (Centennial, CO) and Dustin Hall (Salt Lake City, UT) rounding out the top ten.

Gillette Thunder Speedway is located in Gillette, WY, off I-90 Exit 129, then 0.5 miles south on Garner Lake Road, then 1.7 miles east on SR 51. For more information, contact the track at 307-660-5233 or 307-689-1287.

The 2006 ASCS Rocky Mountain Region schedule consists of 17 events at ten different tracks throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, New Mexico, Montana and South Dakota.

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing at nearly 100 tracks throughout 27 different states and Canada in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
