COLBY, Kan. (August 31, 2003) - C.J. Johnson celebrated Wednesday's birth of his daughter by making a last lap pass of Garry Lee Maier to top Sunday night's American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region feature at Thomas County Speedway.

Outside front row starter Gary Taylor outgunned polesitter Patrick Bourke to lead the opening round, with Bourke racing into the lead on the second circuit. Bourke paced the field until the seventh round when Garry Lee Maier charged into the lead, with fifth-starting Johnson hot on his heels.

As lapped traffic came into play, Johnson slipped around Maier for the lead on the 12th circuit. Maier raced back into the lead following a caution for Mike Thigpen's wall contact one lap later.

Maier led the way until the final round when the tenacious Johnson made the race-winning move. Maier settled for second, with Bourke, Taylor and current ASCS Rocky Mountain Region point leader Randi Miller rounding out the top five.

Eric Miller, Tony Bruce, Jr., 14th-starter Jake Pierson, Luke Cranston and Jace Pennetta completed the top ten.

Bourke, Taylor and Randi Miller claimed heat race victories.
