Carrying On -- Rilat & McClelland Extend ASCS Streaks
TULSA, Okla. (April 23, 2009) -- Greg Rilat in Gulf South action and Brian McClelland at a Sooner show, those are just a couple of things that ASCS followers have come to expect in recent years.
And, for good reason, as those drivers sit atop the ASCS Regional "Iron-Man" charts with 107 and 68 consecutive events competed in, respectively, a pair of marks that will be extended in this weekend's Regional action in Texas and Oklahoma.
Rilat, father of Lucas Oil ASCS title contender and past ASCS National champion Travis Rilat, has battled it out amongst the ASCS Gulf South ranks since the series was launched in 2002. Recording four points runner-up finishes along the way, Rilat has wheeled his familiar No. 35 entry in 117 of the 122 events in ASCS Gulf South history and 107 events in a row since last missing an event at Many, LA, on September 21, 2002.
A bit further to the north, Brian McClelland has established himself as a fixture on the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Regional tour by competing in every event over each of the past four years and capturing back-to-back championships aboard the No. 87 machine in 2007 and 2008.
Rilat will extend his streak with ASCS Gulf South events at Beaumont's Golden Triangle Raceway Park and Cleveland's 105 Speedway this weekend, while McClelland keeps his run alive in the ASCS Sooner Region opener at Creek County Speedway.
Behind Rilat and McClelland on the Regional lists are Jeremy Sherman and Mike Martin, who have competed in all 50 Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region events, and Jared Zimbardi, who has taken part in 48 consecutive ASCS Patriot events.
While Rilat's 107 consecutive ASCS Gulf South events is a Regional record, four-time National champion Gary Wright possesses the longest active streak of Lucas Oil ASCS National events competed-in at 200 in a row after last month's Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals.
Wright, who last missed an ASCS National event in May of 2003, is just a dozen nights short of Toby Brown's record mark of 212 consecutive events competed-in established over a seven-season stretch from 1999 to 2005.
All of the race notes and results from this weekend's ASCS Gulf South and ASCS Sooner Region action will be available at www.ascsracing.com.
