SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (June 19, 2003)-- The points race is getting tighter in the Coors Light Late Model division at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway, so the June 21 Sprint Night twin 110s should be a real contest that should not be missed. Also on the agenda for Sprint Night are 50 laps for the Sheetz Limited Sportsman division, 30 laps for the Pure Stocks and 50 laps for the Rolling Thunder Modifieds.
Philip Morris won the June 14 event at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway, but he had to fight Jimmy Mullins to claim the win. Mullins and Morris are also fighting for the points lead, with Mullins leading Morris by only two points. The remainder of the top five is in position to strike as well. Dean Ward sits third, 18 points out of the lead. After fending off Mullins to finish second June 14, Woody Howard has moved up to fourth, 34 markers behind Mullins. Jason Dickerson's fifth place finish June 14 set him fifth in points, only two points behind Howard.
Highlighting the evening's activities on June 21 is the second Faster Pastor competition of the 2003 season. Fans that witnessed the first Faster Pastor competition in March were thrilled by the intense competition the area clergy members put on. This time, three more clergy members will battle head-to-head for a $500 donation to their church. Entered in this competition are the Rev. Russell Lee Jr., of the First Presbyterian Church in South Boston; Pastor Steve Smith of the New Life Community Church in Danville, Va.; and Brenda Gibson, AWANA commander at North Main Baptist Church, also in Danville.
Grandstand gates for Sprint Night open at 5 p.m., qualifying begins at 5:30 p.m., and the green flag will fly at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults. Youth age 10 to 15 pay $5, and children nine and under are free. The Pepsi Racing for Kids Challenge is open to children age four to seven, and will begin at 6 p.m.
