ASCS Sprints on Dirt Ready for International Weekend Double

TULSA, Okla. (August 22, 2006) -- Entering the championship stretch drive, the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz features an international double this weekend with events in Canada and the United States.

On Friday night, the series makes its first stop of the season at Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada. Then on Saturday night, it's back to Michigan for the series second stop of the season at Owendale Speedway.

Thus far in 2006, eleven different drivers have made it to ASCS Sprints on Dirt victory lane through the series 17 features. Only three drivers have posted multiple victories in '06, including current point leader Ken Mackey of Manitou Beach, MI, who has a series' best four wins.

Also posting multiple ASCS SOD wins thus far in '06 are 2001 series champion Steve Irwin of Columbiaville, MI, and St. Johns, MI, shoe Ryan Grubaugh. Irwin has posted three wins, including a July 8 Owendale triumph, while Grubaugh notched his second career series win in recent Merritt action.

Defending series champion Tim Norman of Warsaw, IN, became the latest driver to add his name to the '06 victory roster by topping last Friday night's make-up feature at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, MI.

With just a handful of point events remaining, Mackey holds an 81-point lead over Kalkaska, MI, racer Gary Fast entering the weekend. Fast currently holds second in a hotly-contested duel for the runner-up slot, entering the weekend just three points ahead of Lyons, Michigan's Gregg Dalman, with Bellvue, Michigan's Dain Naida just ten more points back in fourth.

Kyle Patrick, "The Tilbury Tornado", rounds out the current top five, with the balance of the top ten including Kevin Atkins, Joe Bares, Grubaugh, Louie Carufel and Davey Brown.

Two-time series champion Dustin Daggett of Portland, MI, has topped the August SOD events at Ohsweken Speedway over each of the past two years.JIrwin scored the win in the first 2006 series top at Owendale, with other SOD winners at Owendale in recent years including Joe Bares, Glenn Styres, Dave Fox and Wayne Morrison.

Friday's action at Ohsweken Speedway gets under way at 7:45 p.m., with Saturday's card at Owendale Speedway firing off at 7:00 p.m.

Ohsweken Speedway is located on the east edge of Brantford on PR 403 to Garden Ave. exit, then 3.3 miles south on CR 18, then 6.7 miles east on CR 54, then 1.5 miles south on Chiefswood Road. For more information, contact the track at 519-445-0937 or 519-542-2116.
