HANOVER, PA, 04/26/04 -- Pequea, PA's DJ Montgomery picked up his first career win in the 20-lap 600 winged micro sprint feature race at Trail-Way Speedway on Saturday night. Montgomery grabbed the lead away from Jamie Umlauf on lap nine, leading the rest of the way through heavy amounts of lapped traffic.
Ninth starter, Timmy Dietz, worked his way through several competitive cars, closing in on Gary Hunter who ran behind Montgomery during the latter portion of the race. Lapped traffic began to become a factor on lap fifteen, giving some cushion between first, second and third.
"Lapped traffic doesn't seem to bother me," said a cool, calm and collected Montgomery in victory lane, "I was just trying to keep calm. The car was handling perfect!"
Following Montgomery across the line was Hunter, Dietz, tenth starter Chad Criswell and twelfth starter Brett Schoenly.
Early race leader Umlauf fell back several positions by the fourteenth lap and fought with last weekend's race winner Sean Campbell for the sixth and seventh position. Campbell finished ahead of Umlauf, allowing Dwayne Gutshall to attempt to take seventh from Campbell. The checkered flag came out in time giving Umlauf the seventh place finish followed by Gutshall in eighth, Shawn Seifert in ninth, and Paul Hively finishing in the tenth position.
Steve Buckwalter can't seem to do anything wrong. Buckwalter took the lead from Mike Midkiff on lap thirteen to take his seventh 250 micro sprint win of the 2004 season. Buckwatler is currently the winningest driver out of all of the divisions run at Trail-Way Speedway.
Buckwalter seemed to be an old pro in victory lane and pulled up and exited his car with ease. It seems to be getting easier and easier as the weeks go by. Buckwalter gave the notion that he did not want to move up in divisions during the previous week's interview, and instead this week gave a hint that he was actually beginning to think about it.
Finishing behind Buckwalter was Mike Midkiff, the Weaver Construction #8 driven by Jim Still, Mike Connors, and Bill Laughman driving the Swartz Chassis/Rustic Iron micro sprint.
Chad Myers, Joe Trone, Craig Myers, Mike Boyer and Jeff Hartman completed the top ten.
Joe Brown picked up his first win of the 2004 season in the classic car division. Brown led all 15 laps in the feature race. Following behind Brown was Jerry Pownall, Fred Cullum, Dwayne Fabrick and Mike Schultz.
In 4 cylinder starlite oval competition, Frank Trail Jr., won the 12-lap feature race and in 6 cylinder starlite competition, Buddie Jeffers got the win.
Michael Racine got his second win of the 2004 season in the scramble car division.
