REUTIMANN JR. TAKES SECOND O'REILLY USCS WIN AT SGMP

CECIL, GA - Wayne Reutimann Jr. of Zephyrhills, FL drove his Case Contracting/Revere GMC Hurricane/Snyder to his second O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series Asphalt Thunder win of the season Saturday night at South Georgia Motorsports Park. Reutimann also padded his O'Reilly USCS point lead with the victory.

The third-generation driver had to deal with a pair of former O'Reilly USCS National Champions to get the win. Reutimann jr. passed defending and four-time series champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN for the lead on lap two, and then held off a late-race charge from 2000 series champion Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL.

Adams got close at the end, but lost Reutimann in heavy lapped traffic, and had to settle for second in the Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott. In enroute to the front of the pack, Adams had to battle with Ryan Myers of Eldorado, OH in the Garrett Myers Farms Domelt/Garrett.

The 18-year-old Myers ended up third, his fourth straight top three finish in O'Reilly USCS competition. Myers also won the K&N Filters Third-Place Award, and the SpeedMart Young Gun of the Race Award.

Matt Tiffany of Daytona Beach, FL finished fourth in the Independent Printing Hurricane/Ott to take the Rookie of the Race Award, and the 16-year-old driver also took the lead in the O'Reilly Rookie of the Year point standings. Gray was fifth in the Goodson Farms/Wendy's Maxim/Wesmar to take the Speed Mart Top Five Award.

Reutimann now leads Myers in the O'Reilly USCS National point standings by six points, with Gray in the third spot, 18 points back, and Adams is fourth, ten points behind Gray.

To make it a family affair, Wayne Reutimann Sr. of Zephyrhills, FL drove his Case Contracting/Revere GMC Avenger/Snyder to a sixth-place finish, and Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL finished seventh in the Martin Structures, Inc. Shaw/ZRE to move to fifth in the O'Reilly USCS National point standings.

K&N Filters Pole Award Winner Doug Day of Winder, GA was eighth in the Gotta Race Eagle/Dingler, and rookie Bryn Gohn of Malabar, FL took the ninth spot in the Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott. Charles Ladner of Brandon, FL rounded out the top ten in the Mac Steele AutoCraft Hurricane/AutoCraft and won the FSR Performance Award.

Gray took the lead at the drop of the green flag from his outside front row starting spot, with Reutimann Jr., who started fourth, following him around Day and Tiffany by the end of the first lap. Reutimann then powered around Gray for the lead in turn three on lap two. Tiffany moved up to the second spot on lap four, bringing Myers and Adams with him around Gray, who fell to fifth.

Reutimann Jr. began to check out on the field while Tiffany, Myers and Adams waged war for the second spot until a lap 13 red flag for a flip by Ben Basinger of Granite Quarry, NC in turn one brought the field to a halt. Basinger climbed out of his Red Star Motorsports Clincher/Basinger uninjured, and took home the Weld Racing Hard Luck Award.

Brice Wrenn of Lexington, SC in the Stainless Fabricators ERI-Raptis/Gaerte and Dave Thorman of Greenville, SC in the Taylor Automotive J&J/Taylor were also collected in the tangle, but both were able to continue. Reutimann Jr. led Tiffany, Myers, Adams, and Gray down for the restart.

Adams went to work on lap 14, as the "Malabar Missile" shot past Myers and Tiffany to take over the second spot, and he then set his sights on the leader Reutimann Jr. Myers was able to get by Tiffany for the third spot on lap 15, and chased down Adams to battle for the second spot. Adams was up to the challenge, as he was able to hold off Myers.

By lap 25, Adams had opened up several car-lengths on Myers, as he sped towards the leader. Adams was able to close to within a couple of car-lengths of Reutimann Jr. in the closing laps, but Reutimann Jr. used lapped traffic to his advantage to take the win unchallenged.

In qualifications, Myers set a new all-time track record at South Georgia Motorsports Park by turning the half-mile paved oval in 15.030 seconds for an average speed of 119.760 miles per hour.

In addition to the feature race win, Reutimann Jr. also won the Huggins Cams Hard Charger of the Race Award, the Outlaw Brakes Fast Break of the Race Award, the six-lap Air Flow Research Power Dash, and the Engler Tool and Machine first eight-lap heat race.

Adams took the ButlerBuilt second eight-lap heat race, and Reutimann Sr. won the Koolbeans Trophies third eight-lap heat race.

The O'Reilly USCS will open its dirt track season and the Carolina Thunder Tour season with its next two events on April 15 at Riverside Speedway in Travelers Rest, SC and on April 16 at I-20 Speedway in Batesburg, SC. For more information visit the O'Reilly USCS web site at www.uscsracing.com.
