O'REILLY USCS SOUTHERN THUNDER TOUR REVS BACK UP WITH EVENTS AT EAST ALABAMA AND ROME, GA

FAYETTEVILLE, GA - The O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series Southern Thunder Tour revs back up with upcoming events at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL on Saturday night, June 11, and at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA on Sunday night, June 12. These two events will be the third and fourth O'Reilly USCS Southern Thunder Tour events of the season.

Winged outlaw sprint car drivers from eight different states are expected for both races. In addition to earning Southern Thunder points, each event will also carry O'Reilly USCS National points.

East Alabama Motor Speedway is the only track in the country that has hosted an O'Reilly USCS event each year since its inception in 1997. EAMS has seen 12 series races in the past nine years, and the current O'Reilly USCS National and Southern Thunder Tour point leader Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL has won four of them, including last year.

A brand new clay surface at the half-mile Rome Speedway will greet the O'Reilly USCS competitors, as defending race winner Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL will be looking gain ground on Adams in the National and Southern Thunder points chases.

A shake up in the Southern Thunder Tour point standings will take place over the two events, as the second and third-place drivers on the current list will make way for drivers behind them to move up.

Second-place Southern Thunder driver Paul Sides of Memphis, TN has taken another motorsports-related job, and third-place driver Michael Miller of Tallapoosa, GA is recovering from a concussion suffered in a crash in Clarksville, TN on May 29.

Brian Maddox of Brandon, FL, R.J. Johnson of Decatur, TN, and Steve Osborne of Cupertino, CA will be looking to move into championship contention, along with other Southern Thunder top ten drivers that include top rookie drivers Bryn Gohn of Malabar, FL, and Stephen Darvalics of Venice, FL, who are seventh and eighth respectively. J.J. Dutton of Tampa, FL and Chad Allum of Kannapolis, NC round out the top ten.

Martin is currently 16th in the O'Reilly USCS Southern Thunder Tour points chase, and the defending and four-time O'Reilly USCS National Champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN is 18th. Gray, who has two series wins at the East Alabama Motor Speedway 3/8-mile clay oval, and one series win at Rome Speedway, is on the comeback trail after sitting out three races recovering from injuries received in a testing accident on May 24.

On the National points page, Adams leads Martin, followed by Johnson, Gohn, Matt Tiffany of Daytona Beach, FL, Brice Wrenn of Lexington, SC, Ryan Myers of Eldorado, OH, Gray, Darvalics, and Dutton.

Other top drivers expected for both races include Steven Graham of Sydney, AUS, who will give each event an international flavor, Brian Thomas of Auburn, GA, Jeremy Scott of Franklin, GA, Johnny Bridges of Cherryville, NC, Bobby Courtwright of Evans, GA, Shane Nelson of Chattanooga, TN, Dave Thorman of Greenville, SC, and Jerry Jones of Clermont, FL.

Pound-for-pound, the O'Reilly USCS winged outlaw sprint cars are the most powerful short track racing cars in the Southeast. These open-wheel single-seat race cars weight 1,300 pounds and are powered by 700 horsepower fuel-injected, alcohol-burning V-8 engines. The O'Reilly USCS machines are expected to turn the fastest speeds ever seen at each track.

At each event this weekend, the O'Reilly USCS winged outlaw sprint cars will compete in the Air Flow Research Power Dash, heat races, a B-main, and a 30-lap feature race.
