Terry Gray Wins Air Flow Research Super Dash For The Second Straight Year
BARBERVILLE, FL - Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN won his second straight United Sprint Car Series Air Flow Research Super Dash Sunday night at Volusia Speedway Park driving the Goodson Farms/Wendy's Maxim/Wesmar. The win in the 10-car, 10-lap 7th Annual event was worth $5,000 in cash and prizes to the four-time and 2004 USCS Champion.
Sunday night's win was the third Air Flow Research Super Dash win of Gray's career. His first came in 2001. Air Flow Research Cylinder Heads sponsored AFR Power Dashes at each USCS event during the 2004 season. Gray won nine AFR Power Dashes this season, and led the points going into Sunday night's AFR Super Dash to earn the pole position for the race.
Gray led all 10 laps to beat Brice Wrenn of Lexington, SC in the Stainless Fabricators Hench/Gaerte to the checkered flag. Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL finished third in the Martin Fabricators Schnee/ZRE, and fourth went to Mike Brecht of Deshler, OH in the Tim Hogan's Carpet Maxim/Hampshire after starting tenth.
Chad Allum of Kannapolis, NC took the fifth spot in the Heintz Automotive Allum/Allum, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. of Olive Branch, MS was sixth in the Country Ford/South Tire J&J/Dynotech.
Rookie R.J. Johnson of Decatur, TN drove the Leaf Race Wear/Pin Rings J&J/ZRE to a seventh place finish, and 1997 USCS National Champion Red Stauffer of Winter Park, FL finished eighth in the C&B Mushrooms Shaw/Ott. Tom Winegardner Jr. of Pierson, FL took the ninth spot in the Snap On Tools J&J/WRP.
The 2000 USCS National Champion Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL rounded out the field after his Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott failed to complete a lap. Adams started on the outside of the front row, and was challenging Gray for the lead in the first turn when he suddenly slowed with a broken drive line.
USCS's winningest driver will have to wait another year to try and win his first Air Flow Research Super Dash.
