The 2001/02 Qld Sprintcar Racing season opened on September 29 at Brisbane International Speedway and former Qld Champion Tony Bridge opened his account in the best possible manner, claiming victory in Round 1 of the Kratzmann Caravans Sprintcar Series. Bridge (AB Bridge Removalists Avenger) started from the front row alongside Andrew Scheuerle but took a back seat to Scheuerle's Lucas Oils Maxim #95 in the early laps until Scheuerle tangled with a lapped car and was momentarily forced infield. Bridge pounced on his opportunity and was never headed throughout the remainder of the twenty lap Feature event. Kathy Kelly filled the remaining podium position in her return to racing after a two year lay-off with Anthony Lambert and Rob Kyle rounding out the top five.

In an incident free night of racing for the open cars, Bridge, Scheuerle, Lambert and Kyle all scored heat race victories before Bridge wrapped up pole position with a win in the six lap Dash over Scheuerle and Lambert. The Feature event came under caution for the first and only time on lap fourteen for Brent Kratmann who had spun the #18 Maxim in turn two, with Bridge picking up the gas very early on the back straight prior to the green and clearing away from the pack and running trouble free to the flag.

In OzSprintcar racing, Ben Wright crashed heavily into the turn three wall during Heat 3 after riding a wheel, extensively damaging the chassis and ending his night of racing. Graham Williams claimed the win in the twelve lap OzSprintcar Final over Darren Vine, Jason Botten, Doug Cavill and Wes Wright. <pre> Heat 1 1. Tony Bridge 2. Anthony Lambert 3. Sherri Shaffer 4.
