For Wanless, it was a night that promised so much and one that nearly delivered his third Qld Title to him but finished with the runner-up spot. Second place in his final heat assured him of a position in the pole shuffle and it was in this series of one-on-one races that he showed that he was to be a true contender for the Championship win. Methodically he disposed of Andrew Scheuerle, Darrell Hodges, Drew Kruck, Robbie Farr and Stephen Bell until he came across defending Champion and equal top points scorer Tony Bridge. In an interesting chain of events, Bridge (AB Bridge Removalists Avenger) was afforded the luxury of a number of hot laps while Wanless patiently rolled around the racetrack waiting for his rival to form up and the two then went through five failed attempts to start the final shuffle before the Stewards brought a halt to proceedings. Despite this, the two were given one final chance by the Stewards to determine who would start from the pole in the Feature event and Wanless went on to secure the victory over Bridge.

With the grid positions finalized and Luch Monte added in to the seventeen car field as the promoter's choice, the green flag flew and Wanless took the lead coming off of turn two and onto the back stretch. Bridge got together with Stephen Bell (Speedflow Maxim) in turn four with the two cars spinning and crossing the infield, re-entering the track in turn three and effectively a lap down, Bell rolling to a stop bringing on the yellow light and the two rejoined the race at the back of the field. No sooner was the race back under way and Brent Kratzmann spun in turn four, his Stealth racer clipping Brock Dean and rolling on to it's side bringing out the first red flag of the race. Lap seven and the red light was on again, this time for Luch Monte's upturned Maxim in turn three, bringing an end to a forgettable weekend for the driver from Western Australia. Wanless continued to lead from Farr and Kruck from the restart and over the next fifteen laps looked comfortably in control of the race, while Scheuerle and Hodges battled lap after lap for fourth position, Hodges holding the advantage each time Scheuerle had a serious look at a pass. A yellow light on lap 21 to allow the safe removal in turn three of the front wing which had dislodged from Adam Tulloch's car bunched the field back behind Wanless for the run to the flag. Wanless remained in control until succumbing to pressure from Farr entering turn one with three laps remaining, Farr going on to score a popular and deserving victory and adding the win to his Australian Sprintcar Open victory at this same venue in January. Kruck remained in third over the final laps while Scheuerle prevailed in his battle with Hodges to secure fourth.

Defending Champion Tony Bridge eventually finished 8th while other early Title favorites Cameron Gessner, Stephen Bell and Darren Jensen finished 6th, 10th and 11th respectively.
