After flying into Australia last week USA Sprintcar sensation, Jason Johnson is ready for action this weekend in the opening round of the 14-round World Series Sprintcar Championship this weekend at Brisbane International Speedway, Archerfield.
Johnson, 27, has already had one race in Adelaide last Saturday night where he set the pace at the Australian Sprintcar Masters in his 750hp Aussiefast Transport/STP Sprintcar. But understands this weekend will be even tougher than Saturday night We have a good run last weekend with almost everything going our way, comments Johnson. This weekend there is expected to be something like 35 cars in action making it a very tough event but I am confident of a good result.
It is also the start of the Championship so every one of the 20 contracted drivers will be out to gain some valuable points early in the Championship.
Johnson has never seen the tight Archerfield layout before, however he has been doing some research They tell me it is like a real elbows up kinda racetrack which suits me. Over the past season in America Johnson finished second in the All Stars Championship and also broke through for a victory in the toughest Championship of all, the World of Outlaws Series. The Outlaws is classed as the unofficial World Sprintcar Championship and Johnson beat the best of the best to take his victory.
Throughout the World Series Championship in Australia the American will be a part of the only 2-car team competing in the entire Championship under the Craft Disbury Racing outfit. His team mate throughout the summer is former World Series Champion, Brad Hollywood Heywood.
Heywood is one of the most flamboyant drivers in the Series and the last time he competed at Archerfield the New South Welshman finished third in the Australian Title. Although that was some time ago he is confident of a good result this weekend and kick start the Championship points chase.
Last weekend the team had a good hit out in Adelaide the brush the cobwebs out and we are confident of two good results this weekend, says Heywood.
The World Series Sprintcars Championship will have live results on www.sprintcarworld.com.au beginning at 7pm Eastern Standard Time Saturday.
