WSS: Disbury Racing Wagga, round two preview

In the opening round of the World Series Sprintcar Championship at Brisbane last weekend both Craft Disbury Racing drivers showed that they would be a threat to the leading contenders throughout the 14-rounds.

This Saturday night the team heads to Wagga International Speedway for the second of the 14 round Championship.

When Jason Johnson upended his Aussiefast Transport/STP Eagle while leading the dash the chassis suffered some severe damage and the team has spent the past week building a new car for the American Sensation.

"The chassis was pretty much junk. It took a hell of a beating when the front end dug in and pogo sticked into the air," said Johnson. "Then when I got put into the wall in the A-Main the rear end was damaged so we were left with no choice but bolt the other car together for this week."

The other team driver, Brad Heywood who was running a comfortable third until he spun mid race in the feature last week has had a quiet week compared to Johnson and the South Australian based part of the team who have been sweating it out in sweltering conditions.

"We found a minor problem in the engine when we were preparing the car for this week which means I may have solved my engine drama that plagued me in the feature last week, well I hope we have anyway," comments the former World Series Champion, Heywood.

While he has never competed at the venue before from what he has been told Johnson believes the venue will be one of the closest to an American circuit that is on the tour.

"From what they tell me it's the biggest track we go to and I am really looking forward to it," says Johnson.

Heywood however has tasted success at Wagga previously and is aiming to continue that success this weekend "Last time I was there I won my first NSW State Championship hopefully I can be up the front again this weekend."
