Late B-Main Incident Puts The Fly Out at Speedway City

Ian Lewis Racing had their second successive tough evening at round three of World Series Sprintcars where despite many incidents the 'The Fly' definitely had the pace to make the A-Main.

Adelaide put on scorching hot weather for this round of the series where Lewis would be the 29th out of 30 cars to take to the track in time trials. 'The Fly' made the most of the less than ideal position to post the twelfth fastest time on his first of two laps. On his second lap, as he crossed the front straight, the main wing collapsed forward which forced Lewis into a spin where the rear of the car made contact with the turn one wall.

The Ian Lewis Racing crew were lucky to be in the third heat race, which left the team ample time to replace the differential before they were due out on the track. With not much time remaining after repairing the Komatsu Used Equipment, Adtrans, Camden Neon Signs, J&J Auto Racing car, crew chief Jeff Jackson was forced to make a guess on the set up choice for the heat race.

"The team were fantastic all night as they continued to work hard even though things were not travelling in the direction we would have liked. Taking twelfth place in time trials was quite good considering we only got the one lap in and as we were the second to last car out," said Lewis.

After a promising start in his first heat race, Lewis who started sixth spun on the final lap in turn four which left the veteran driver to take tenth. The second heat saw a much better prepared car where 'The Fly' recorded sixth place.

Lewis was left with not enough points to make the A-Main and lined up in sixth place for the B-Main where the top six would transfer into the feature race. Over the course of the fifteen-lap race Lewis held off challenges from Ben Atkinson and Terry Bracken to sit comfortably in fourth. However the ill handling car reared its ugly head once again in the final two laps where 'The Fly' lost control of the Komatsu Used Equipment, Adtrans, Camden Neon Signs, J&J Auto Racing car in turn three where he spun and was collected by Luke Dillon.

"The car was very inconsistent with how it would behave in each turn on each lap and this made the car a real handful at times until it eventually caught me out in turn three and ended our night."

Team owner Dave Challons made the decision late in the evening that the current car would no longer be used and the brand new J&J chassis would be put together over the course of the week to put the team in the position they deserve.

"We refuse to keep travelling like this and since we started with the car at Easter, it has not been the kindest of cars the team has dealt with but this week we will sort all that out as we piece our new weapon together for Wagga," explained Challons.

The team will compete at Wagga International Raceway on December 4 for round four of World Series Sprintcars.

Ian Lewis Racing is sponsored by Komatsu Used Equipment, Adtrans Truck Centre, Camden Neon Signs, J&J Auto Racing, Cascade, The Metric Men and Transport Equipment Hire.
