Austin Cindric expanding his already diverse racing resume
The son of Team Penske President Tim Cindric will make his debut in the Pirelli World Challenge this weekend.
Austin Cindric is set to take yet another step in his budding motorsports career.
Cindric, the 16-year old son of Team Penske President Tim Cindric, will participate in this weekend’s Rounds 11 and 12 of the Pirelli World Challenge at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Austin will make his GT class debut in a Reiter Engineering developed Lamborghini Gallardo R-EX.
“After my outing in the 12 Hours of Bathurst, I was eager to gather more experience in GT3,” Austin said. “Reiter Engineering and Blancpain Racing is a proven team with great cars and I'm really excited as this came up at just the right time as it is one of the few weekends that doesn't conflict with something else on my schedule.”
Cindric is coming off a successful stock car debut in ARCA, starting fourth and finishing fourth in the July 17 event at Iowa Speedway.
Proving his versatility
His racing career began in Bandolero and Legends cars and, in 2013, he competed in USF2000 and historic racing. In 2014, he ran in 30 races in five different championships on 17 different race tracks.
Earlier this year, he became the youngest driver ever to race the legendary 12 Hours of Bathurst at Mount Panorama. He also competes fulltime in the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS class and in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Lites division.
Thus far this season, he has two victories in GRC Lites and became the youngest ever CTSCC winner at Mosport.
Cindric doesn’t believe that switching between GT racing, stock cars and rallycross will present any problems transitioning to the Pirelli World Challenge with Blancpain Racing.
“I make it a point for myself to just focus on the current situation,” he said. “The speed and results will follow.”
