Blackdog Racing Returns to SPEED GT in 09 with "Greater Good" Program

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. (Feb. 10, 2009) -- SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT team Blackdog Racing is pleased to announce their return to the series in 2009 with a new Racing for the Greater Good program.

Beginning with the 2009 season, Blackdog will choose a charitable cause to represent at each of the 10 SCCA SPEED GT rounds. In addition to running the charitable organizations' logo on the race car that weekend, promotional signage and literature will be on display in the Blackdog paddock, and representatives of the charity will be VIP guests of Blackdog for the event. "We all spend so much time focused on the business side of racing, we forget that, in the grand scheme of things, we really are just providing entertainment," Blackdog Racing Business Manager Toby Johnson said. "We also forget just how big our stage really is, and how easy it would be to get the word out for some great causes."

"I have a pretty good life," Blackdog Racing Team Owner and Driver Tony Gaples said. "I have a home, family, friends and my health. Not everyone can say that."

Gaples will once again pilot the No. 34 Kleinschmidt Inc/Blackdog Racing Chevrolet Corvette in his sixth full-season of SCCA SPEED GT. Gaples finished ninth in the 2008 SCCA SPEED GT Championship, collecting four top-10 finishes.

"We learned quite a bit last season, which should lead us to be even more competitive this year," Gaples added. "This combined with some new cars in the series, and some big driver moves, has us really looking forward to 2009."

The 2009 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge season kicks off March 18 -- 20, with The Toyo Tires SPEED World Challenge Season Opener at Sebring International Raceway, part of the 57th Annual Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring Presented by Fresh From Florida.
