Max Papis Takes Pole For Team Cadillac at Cleveland
CTS-V Race Car at Front of Grid; Other Cadillacs Fifth and Sixth

CLEVELAND - In what was one of the closest qualifying sessions in SCCA World Challenge SPEED GT history, Max Papis claimed the pole position for Team Cadillac with a time of 1:17.692 seconds. His teammates Max Angelelli and Andy Pilgrim-both posting times less than two-tenths of a second behind Papis-qualified for the fifth and sixth spots on the grid, respectively.

"I found traffic on the first lap and decided to save my tires; I knew we had more in the car," said Papis. "This is not a banzai track; it's much more of a momentum track. My several years of experience in Champ Cars at this track allowed me to continue working with the car from the word 'go' while maybe someone else was still working on their lines-I was just focusing on my car."

Teammates Pilgrim and Angelelli were also on their game this morning as both qualified very close behind Papis, creating an all-Cadillac third row. Equally as close as today's qualifying session is Cadillac's four-point lead in the manufacturers championship standings, which makes today's race all the more significant for the team.

"This is the closest qualifying I've ever seen in SPEED GT," said Andy Pilgrim. "Less than two-tenths of a second separate the top-six qualifiers-that's like NASCAR short-oval qualifying times! The fact that three different makes of cars-Cadillac, Porsche and Corvette-occupy the top six on the grid makes it even more amazing. Considering how much R.E.W.A.R.D.S. weight I'm carrying in the car I'm still pretty happy with the results." Angelelli is always a candidate for the pole position but had a tough session today. The Italian managed a time of 1:17.830 even though he had contact with another car that was returning to the track after going off course.

"It's really good to have all of the Cadillacs starting near the front of the grid," said Angelelli. "Although I would have liked to be a little further up front, this will be an important race for us so I'm really looking forward to this afternoon."

Team Cadillac returns to the track at Burke Lakefront Airport at 4:00 p.m. to race in the fifth leg of SPEED GT World Challenge. Today's 32 lap race will be televised on SPEED TV at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
