Englewood Cliffs, N.J. – Ferrari 458 Italias in two racing series battled over the weekend on the temporary circuit on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan.
Saturday’s Pirelli World Challenge saw a strong run from a pair of those Ferraris. Olivier Beretta, in the no. 61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 458 Italia, finished in second position overall while Henrique Cisneros, driving the no. 30 MOMO Ferrari 458 Italia, was victorious in the GT-A class. Sunday’s scheduled Pirelli World Challenge race was cancelled due to heavy rain.
Contact eliminates Scuderia Corsa from third place
Unfortunately for the no. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia, which entered the weekend second in the driver’s championship, Saturday’s 100-minute race ended early. After starting the race from the seventh position, Bill Sweedler guided the car until the Scuderia Corsa team pitted under a full course caution. During the caution, the Scuderia Corsa crew’s fast pit work got the Ferrari back on track in second position.
However, in the closing stages of the race, Townsend Bell was hit by a prototype which sent the Ferrari into the wall. With heavy damage, Bell was forced to retire the car which was credited with finishing in ninth position.
Next: A double-header weekend
The next round of the TUDOR Championship will be the Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York on June 26-28. That same weekend, Pirelli World Challenge will host a double-header weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
