Henzler Leads SPEED GT Practice at Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2004) -- Germany's Wolf Henzler again made an immediate impact in his return to the series by pacing the combined SCCA SPEED GT practice sessions Friday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, in preparation for Sunday's Round 10 race. Boris Said, of Carlsbad, Calif., and Michael Culver, of Westport, Conn., completed the top three.

Henzler, who drove the No. 17 Farnbacher Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to a win at Round Four at Infineon Raceway earlier this season, set the fastest lap of the day in the morning session with a 1:31.118 on the 11-turn, 2.238-mile circuit. Henzler's quick lap time was a second and a half quicker than the qualifying lap record (132:662, 86.948 mph) set by Randy Pobst last year.

Said, who was a series regular in 2003, apparently has not missed a beat driving the No. 30 Applied Computer Solutions Saleen SR, as he turned the second quickest lap of the day in the afternoon session with a 1:31.496.

Piloting the No. 14 First Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Culver drove third fastest time in the afternoon session, recording a lap of 1:32.336.

Lou Gigliotti, of Dallas, who is coming off a third place finish at Road Atlanta, was fourth fastest in practice. Mike McCann, of Canton, Ohio, who is leads all rookies in points, recorded the fifth quickest lap.

SPEED GT qualifying is set for 12:45 p.m. (Pacific) Saturday, Oct. 16. The SPEED GT season finale will make its standing start at 1:00 p.m. (Pacific) Sunday, Oct. 17. Sunday's race will air at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern) and 1:00 p.m. (Pacific), Sunday Oct. 17.
