Fellows Captures Sunday Speed GT Pole at Mosport

CANADA (Aug. 8, 2004) -- Toronto's Ron Fellows used his home-track knowledge to best the series regulars in taking the pole position for Sunday's SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Championship Round Seven race at Mosport International Raceway. Michael Culver, a native Canadian now residing in Westport, Conn., qualified second.

Driving the No. 12 Cadillac/Mobil 1/Motorola/Bose Cadillac CTS-V, Fellows turned a fastest time Sunday morning of 1:22.409 (107.420 mph), breaking teammate Max Angelelli's record of 1:23.452, which he set Saturday.

The pole comes in Fellows' second-career start. The Mosport expert qualified third for Saturday's first part of the weekend doubleheader, but started from pit lane after missing the presentation lap preceding the race. He set the race's fastest lap Saturday en route to a ninth-place finish.

Culver's lap of 1:22.960 (106.706 mph) in the No. 14 First Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup was good enough to place him on the front row for the first time in his career.

Leighton Reese, of Minnetonka, Minn., turned a 1:23.125 (106.495 mph) in his No. 6 Banner Engineering Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 and will start third, followed by the Cadillac of Andy Pilgrim and the Corvette of Lou Gigliotti.
