Wittmer Fastest In Mosport Practice for Afternoon World Challenge Race

CANADA (May 22, 2010) -- Montreal's Kuno Wittmer paced both morning practice sessions in preparation for this afternoon's World Challenge Grand Prix of Mosport Victoria Day Speedfest presented by Optima Batteries.

Driving the GT class No. 13 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Viper, Wittmer led the 31-car World Challenge field, turning a fastest lap of 1:22.867 (106.826 mph). The most recent World Challenge GT race winner and winner of first of two 2009 Mosport World Challenge Touring Car races was within a half second of Leighton Reece's five-year old qualifying record.

Randy Pobst, of Gainesville, Ga., was second fastest overall in practice in the No. 6 K-Pax Racing Volvo S60 with a time of 1:23.521 (105.990 mph). Teammate Andy Pilgrim, of Boca Raton, Fla., finished in third with a 1:24.159 (105.187 mph) in his No. 8 K-Pax Racing Volvo S60.

Defending race winner Jason Daskalos, of Albuquerque, N.M., was fourth in his No. 5 Daskalos Developments Dodge Viper, followed by Patrick Lindsey, of Santa Barbara, Calif., in his No. 57 Horton/Sloan Securities Porsche 911 GT3.

Like Wittmer, Peter Cunningham, of Milwaukee, Wis., was fastest in both sessions, but in the GTS class. Driving his No. 43 Acura/RealTime Racing Acura TSX, Cunningham turned a best time of 1:30.648 (97.656 mph) in the morning session.

John Heinricy, of Holly, Mich., was second fastest in GTS, running a 1:31.026 (97.251 mph) in his No. 35 Torvec/Phoenix/Hawk Chevrolet Corvette. Tyler McQuarrie was third in his No. 19 LPL/DRS/Switcars/LCS/Dayco/M&T Lotus Exige S.

Touring Car point leader Robert Stout, of Brownsburg, Ind., paced that class in his No. 18 DG-Spec/Scion/TRD/Lucas Oil Scion tC, turning a fastest time of 1:35.846 (92.360 mph).

Chip Herr, of Lititz, Pa., was second-fastest in the No. 50 Irish Mike's Racing Volkswagen Jetta GLI after turning a 1:36.697 (91.547 mph). Robb Holland was third in his No. Track Pro/Emich VW Volkswagen GTI.

Qualifying for this afternoon's race is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. Eastern.
