Cadillacs Top the Charts in Practice at Mosport
Le Mans Champion Fellows getting comfortable in the CTS-V
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario - The General Motors' Cadillac CTS-V racing team posted the fastest times in both official practice sessions on Friday before Rounds 6 and 7 of the SCCA Speed World Challenge GT at Mosport International Raceway. Cadillac drivers Max Angelelli, Andy Pilgrim and Ron Fellows set the fastest times in the morning and afternoon practices. Angelelli set the fastest time of the day in his #16 CTS-V, with a lap of 1:23.850, breaking last year's track record by nearly one second. Ron Fellows, driver of the third Cadillac CTS-V, recorded the fastest time during the afternoon session in unseasonably cool conditions. Fellows has joined the factory Cadillac effort for this weekend's doubleheader event. After five races, Cadillac trails Audi by five points for the Manufacturers' championship.
"Ron Fellows is doing a spectacular job as expected," said David Spitzer, program manager for the Cadillac CTS-V race car. "Like John Heinricy at Mid Ohio, we try to use the #12 car for special events. Giving Ron the opportunity to race for Cadillac in front of his home crowd is great fun for the team and for everyone at GM."
Angelelli and Fellows set the fastest time in the morning practice session. In the afternoon, the Cadillacs were once again on top, with Ron Fellows setting the fastest lap.
"The guys did a great job to create a fantastic race car out of this street car," said Fellows, who was one of the first development drivers for the Cadillac LMP race car program. "I had a lot of fun in practice and I imagine the car should be even more fun to race. It goes well, stops well and corners well. I'm having a lot of fun and Team Cadillac is a great group of people."
Teammate Max Angelelli set the fastest lap of the day and is looking forward to a points-paying position on Saturday and Sunday.
"We finished our setup work to figure out what we want for qualifying," said Angelelli. "I'm pretty happy with the way the car is handling here. I'm looking forward to a good qualifying session tomorrow and a better race tomorrow afternoon."
Andy Pilgrim currently sits in third position for the drivers' championship. The American drove to sixth-fastest position on Friday.
"The car feels great considering the weight we have had placed on us," said Pilgrim. "I'd be happy to qualify in the top six tomorrow and we'll see what happens in the first race."
Team Cadillac will qualify on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. for Saturday afternoon's World Challenge GT race. Returning again for another qualifying session on Sunday morning, the Cadillacs will race once more on Sunday afternoon.
