Cunningham Returns to World Challenge with TeamRTR Nissan Sentra SE-R
TeamRTR netted 1 win, 3 podiums in debut season

March 10, 2004 - Saukville, Wis. -- Team RTR and its Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V will return to the 2004 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car series, starting March 19 at Sebring International Raceway, driver Peter Cunningham announced.

With the off-season for engine and chassis development behind them, Cunningham feels the Nissan is a valid contender for the championship. "Last year's results were satisfying for a car which didn't make its debut until the second race of the season," He said, "but we want to do better this year. I feel confident, that we can make some steady runs and win races, despite the heavy competition from other teams and manufacturers."

Cunningham is looking forward to the season opener at the 3.7-mile Sebring Raceway where he has scored eight of his North American record 75 career wins over the years.

"Sebring is a challenging place," he says. "Despite some areas of the track which are as wide as Florida itself, you have to choose your line carefully to avoid the bumps. After testing there last month, I'm excited to return and get the season underway."

Cunningham finished the 2003 season fourth in the Driver's Championship points. "We were 25 cents from third place," he said. "That's the cost of the broken clip on the shift linkage that stuck in fourth gear at Lime Rock while I was in second place."

On the team's home track, Road America, the planets aligned and Cunningham gave Nissan its first pole position, and then led every lap to Nissan's first win. "We would have been thrilled with our first win, no matter where it happened, but to get it at our home track, that was just magic." Cunningham later finished third at the October Road Atlanta, and fourth a week later at the season finale in Puerto Rico.

"SCCA Pro Racing continues to build on the strengths of the World Challenge series, as race fans everywhere are continuing to discover it. Not to mention the manufacturers," Cunningham said. "Last year we had at least ten manufacturers in Touring Car, most of them, like Nissan, deeply- involved. There is no other professional road racing series in North America with this many manufacturers, and as the number increases, the value for every manufacturer will also increase."

Sebring's race will be televised by the SPEED Channel with an air date of Sunday, March 28 at Noon (EST).

The TeamRTR Nissan Sentra SE-R effort is sponsored by Nissan North America, Inc., NISMO, Red Line Oil, Eibach Springs, BOSCH, Sparco, and Brembo.
