3R-Racing Goes West with a Question Mark

Englewood, Colorado -- 3R-Racing is heading to Sonoma, Califonia's Infineon Raceway for round four of the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge GT series. The team has had to adjust the Viper and Corvette based upon some equalization rules sent down by the SCCA to slow the entire GT field down.

Last week the SCCA handed down sanctions on the teams Vipers and Corvette. Both cars received a 20% air restriction that goes into affect at Infineon Raceway. "It appears that the Cadillac has been affected the least by the equalization package," said Tommy Archer, driver of the number 22/c3controls/Whelen Engineering/3R Viper. "Infineon has been a good track for me in the past. I have won there several times. The track has the reputation as being a small car track. The Viper is one of the heaviest cars in the field, so I am optimistic. I am running third in points and that has come from taking every advantage offered on the track and the team's excellent preparation."

Phil McClure, driver of the number 73/Aggregate Industries/3R Corvette says, "the restrictor will hurt the Corvette more than any other car that received sanctions. However, it won't show as much at Infineon because there isn't a long straight away. The 20% restriction will be glaring at Mosport and Road America. I finished fifth at Infineon last year, behind the four BMW's. I qualified on the front row and we usually have a good handling car there, so I really like the track."

"I am not sure exactly what the SCCA is trying to do, they seem to penalizing the field for the action of two makes, but we have to try and run our race to their rules," said Tim Wiens driver of the number 33/1st Interstate Inns/3R Viper. "We have a new motor in my car and in the past I have run pretty well at Sears, but that was with a Porsche. The Viper will be a different kind of animal around there, heavier, more horsepower, it will take a little more finesse."

The team enters round four with Tommy Archer in third place in the driver points standings with 69. Following a DNF at Mid-Ohio Phil McClure remains in the top ten in points where he is ninth with 42. Tim Wiens fell from the top 10 to 13th following his engine failure in the same weekend.

The race will be run on Sunday, July 18 at 8:55 a.m. Pacific Time and televised on Speed Channel the same day at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
