What to Watch: A record 81 cars are entered for the two Speedvision World Challenge races this weekend. With recent track renovations, records should fall in both classes.
With Michael Galati jumping to the Speedvision GT Championship after winning three Speedvision Touring Car titles in four years, it'll be Champion vs. Champion as he does battle with 1999 GT Champion Bobby Archer. With Galati's car not being ready for Charlotte and Archer's Viper having mechanical problems, the two are anxious to do battle at Mosport.
Two-time World Challenge Champion Peter Cunningham has opted to race in the Speedvision GT exclusively (after running both classes and finishing in the top-five in each at Charlotte), and looks to tie Lou Gigliotti's career win record (19) beginning with Sunday's race. Cunningham currently leads the series' overall categories for top-threes, top-fives, top-10s and fastest race laps. Cunningham has two wins (1990 and 1991) in seven World Challenge starts at Mosport, and also took two wins in the SCCA Pro Racing U.S. Endurance Championship (1988 and 1990).
The weekend weather could play spoiler for the weekend, with rain showers expected off-and-on throughout. One team who probably wouldn't mind seeing precipitation is Champion Racing, who campaign the only two all-wheel drive vehicles (GT Audi S4 Competition).
