Brazilian V8 Stock Cars: First practice with 50 shades of grey
Heavy clouds and a rainy day set the tone for the first day of practice in Campo Grande for round 9. Daniel Serra and Allam Khodair set the pace on the wet track.
Campo Grande is the capital city of Mato Grosso do Sul state in the west region of Brazil and hosts round nine of Brazilian V8 Stock Car Championship. It is the return of the major Brazilian motorsport series to the ‘Orlando Moura’ Circuit. In damp conditions, the series held its first day of practice with heavy clouds and the fastest lap time by Daniel Serra - 1min34s469 through the 3.433-km circuit.
"It is good to start in P1, but it is hard to make any analysis because track conditions were different - it started really wet and then it was quite dry. Tomorrow we may have no rain and the weather prediction is for a sunny Sunday. So, we have to keep our heads down woking through the weekend", says the Red Bull driver.
Allam Khodair has shown a good pace on the wet track and finished the session with the second fastest time - only 0.07s behind Serra. "A good start, I have to say. I like this track very much and it is good to be back here and to be in good shape. If it keeps raining, then we will be in a very good situation", says the Full Time driver.
Thiago Camilo was third, followed by Felipe Fraga, Gabriel Casagrande, Ricardo Zonta, the birtyday-(jungle)-boy Antonio Pizzonia, Rubens Barrichello, series leader Marcos Gomes and Átila Abreu closed the top-10 on FP1.
The cars get back to the track this Saturday for FP2 and qualifying. Both races will be held on Sunday.
