Laurens Vanthoor will race in Brazilian Stock Car this weekend replacing the championship leader Cacá Bueno at Red Bull Racing team. Teams and drivers are already in Curitiba for the sixth round of the season. Bueno, a five-time series champion, had been suspended in court after offending the marshals on team radio (which went live on TV) after his victory in Ribeirão Preto, on round two - when he crossed the line, he kept racing in front of Marcos Gomes because the chequered flag wasn’t waved at neither of them in the occasion by mistake.
Being here to replace the championship leader is a big thing.

It will be the second experience inside a Stock Car in Brazil for Laurens. He raced alongside Valdeno Brito at Shell Racing in the opening round of the season in Goiânia - and got up to speed quite quickly. He was second in FP2, fourth on qualifying, and finished the race in eight place in the 33-car field.
A different track and a different team. As he got the call from Red Bull Racing, Vanthoor postponed his vacations to be back in a racecar. "It was a last minute thing. I got the call on Monday, and I was on my way to holidays, but obviously, it is quite interesting to be here. Of course, it isn’t so to Cacá, who had been suspended. But being here to replace the championship leader is a big thing", he told.
"Anyway, it’s good to be back here driving the Stock Car. This is a new track for me: it’s quite old school, very nice, with some bumps, the walls are not too far… My mission is to collect points for Red Bull Racing, so we will work to achieve the best result possible for the team", Vanthoor says.
