Howe takes reverse grid
Ford Thunderbird driver Richard Howe has won the second of three races for
V8 Stock Cars at Calder Park Raceway. In the reverse grid event Howe came
off the second last row to grab the lead two laps from home, and win.
Rookie Neville Haley, driving a Holden Calibra, had grabbed the lead off Barry Blake who had led up until half distance, and looked set to take a surprise debut win. But he relented to the pressure of challenger Howe and slipped off the track in the esses.
Series leader Andrew Miedecke came off the back of the grid to finish second while Chris Templer was third. Templer had been ahead of Rodney Crick who spun as the pair tried to get past Barry Blake.
Blake was able to hold off Tony Southwell in the last few laps for fifth as both were hauled in by George Elliot. Crick was next in front of Doug Moss, Martin Burrows and Nigel Benson.
