KENWORTH CUMMINS NASCAR MODIFIED CHAMP SERIES

BECHTELSVILLE, PA MAY 30, 1999 . . . Jeff Strunk, who has won championships at a number of local speedways, is in front of the pack in the chase for the very lucrative Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins NASCAR Modified Championship Series. Strunk (Bechtelsville, PA) has two wins this season, one coming at Grandview Speedway and a second coming at Big Diamond Raceway this past Friday. He has tallied 4030 points with his Keith Harring owned Kenworth/Cummins sponsored Olsen racer. The Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins NASCAR Modified Championship Series offers the champion $15,000 with a total of $40,000 being distributed to the top 15 finishers. The series includes NASCAR Modified races run at both Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, PA on Friday nights and Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA on Saturday nights. In order to be considered for the point fund money at the end of the season, a team must have competed in 10 races at each track. Jon Kellner (Lansdale), the early season leader in the point chase, is now second in the standings with 3925 counters. Kevin Hartnett (Perkasie), without a win at either track this season, is holding down third in the standings with 3,880. And Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville), the defending champion in what used to be the Dual Track Championship Series, holds down fourth with 3795 points. Swinehart is also without a win this season. Glenn Strunk (Bechtelsville) has 3695 counters to sit in fifth position in the chase for the $15,000 first place money. In addition to racing for the Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins NASCAR Modified Championship Series point title, drivers are also racing for lucrative point funds at each of the two NASCAR sanctioned speedways (Grandview Speedway actually has to separate funds for their top finishers) and there is some major money being offered to top regional NASCAR performers. Grandview Speedway also offers a Champion's Trip (for two) to Catalina Island/Ensenada, Mexico/ Las Vegas (eight days) as an added perk. Balance of the top ten in the two track point chase is: 6. John Willman, Pottstown.........3180 10.Mike Bailey, Kutztown, PA.......3145 Teams participating in the two track point series must carry a variety of contingency sponsor decals from NASCAR along with decals from Cummins and Kenworth.
