Minersville, PA (November 28) - After much discussion and review, Big Diamond Raceway officials announced Wednesday that the process of requiring accomplished roadrunner drivers out of the roadrunner class, to maintain it as a true entry level class, has been abandoned.

Effective with the opening of the 2002 season any driver may compete in the roadrunner division at Big Diamond provided he or she has not competed in a higher level class of racing in 2001 or is not competing in a higher level class in 2002. In general drivers in divisions like Pro-Stocks, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Enduro Stocks and other classes that pay less to win than these classes will be permitted to compete in the roadrunners. Drivers in Modifieds, Sportsman, Limited Late Models, Late Models, Limited Sprints, Super Sportsman and the like will not be eligible to compete in the Big Diamond roadrunner class.

"Basically what we are saying is a driver who has competed in a class that regularly pays more than $300 to win, during the current or the previous season, will not be permitted to compete in the Big Diamond roadrunners," shared Steve Roehrig. "We will not be asking drivers to leave the roadrunner class due to their success in the class for now but we reserve the right to formulate a clearly understood policy in the future should we see a driver or drivers dominating the class."

"We will also be welcoming those back who have been moved out in the past if they meet the stated requirement," continued Roehrig, "This means that drivers like Rodney Ulsh, Doug Hendricks, Kevin Evitts, Dean Ulsh and others asked to move out of the class in the past, who are not racing in higher classes, will be permitted to return to active duty in the roadrunners should they wish to do so. But drivers like Rick Hendricks, who now runs in the Sportsman class, will not be permitted to return to the roadrunners this year."

Drivers who race in Enduro-type races or demolition derbies, that pay the winner a higher prize than the $300 guideline, will not be excluded from the roadrunners. If in doubt about eligibility, competitors should contact the speedway so their individual situation can be evaluated.

Big Diamond Raceway is located in Forestville, PA, just outside of Minersville, PA. Details on the 2002 season will be announced in the near future with a mid-March Saturday afternoon Opening Day currently being considered. The Modified Stock Cars, Sportsman Stock Cars and Roadrunners are slated to return as the featured classes for the 2002 season.
