Wickens fifth at Mosport!

Robert Wickens scores his best finish of the year at Mosport

MOSPORT, ONTARIO - Guelph teenager Robert Wickens was back behind the wheel of his Cameron Motorsports/Shift Ford Taurus at Mosport on Saturday night. He left the fastest track that the Ontario Pro Challenge Series travels to with a solid fifth place.

"It was an exciting night of racing, "Wickens said. "We were in the hunt all night, so it is good to see we have the speed to run with the pack."

Wickens spent most of the night moving up positions. In the first heat, he started 10th and moved up to eighth, and then in the second heat he started seventh and moved to fifth. "Because I am a rookie, I have to start at the back for my first three races - like all the other rookies. It is good in a way, because you get more of a chance to learn this style of racing."

In the feature, Wickens lined up eighth and drove through one crash unscathed. "It happened right in front of me. Cars were everywhere," After the caution period, Wickens drove forward to fifth, to record his best finish of the year. "It was close, we developed an oil leak late in the race. I am happy just to bring the Cameron Motorsport/Shift Taurus back in one piece."

Wickens next Ontario Pro Challenge Series race will be on June 19th at Flamboro Speedway.
