Canada Racing Notebook: Linc Brown scores first OMRS career win

Linc Brown kept the streak alive in the Ontario Modified Racing Series of different winners this season after he captured the checkered flag in the race Saturday at Peterborough Speedway.

Brown joiuns Duane Cinnamon, Brad Stevenson and Mark Gordon as feature race winners have earned their first career checked flag this season.

Brown, from Colborne, Ontario, started on the front row, the former provincial late model runner had a pair of former champions in John Baker Jr. and Robert Warnes on his tail for the 25-lap feature showdown. From the drop of the green flag, the No. 99 machine jumped-out to an early lead as the rest of the pack jockeyed for position behind him.

The series makes its first Flamboro Speedway start of the season – Saturday, July 1^st – at the venerable Hamilton, Ontario area raceway.

Jordan Szoke scores 61st career win 

Race day at Round 3 of the 2017 Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship ended as most had expected, with Lynden, Ontario racer Jordan Szoke winning the 22-lap Feature Race in convincing fashion at Autodrome St-Eustache.

Despite the threat of rain throughout the day Szoke won the race in mostly dry conditions.

Szoke, who started the race from the pole position, took the lead early in Pro Superbike and got away from the field immediately, pulling clear for a 6.203-second victory on his BMW S1000RR ahead of the Yamaha R1 of Bodhi Edie and the Kawasaki ZX-10RR of Kenny Riedmann.

 It marked the seventh consecutive win at St-Eustache for the 11-time Canadian Superbike champion, who first won at the Montreal-area track back in 2002.

"The bike was fantastic all weekend, right out of the box," said Szoke on the podium after his 61st Canadian Superbike victory. "We have a great setup here, and this is my strongest track. Our bike's running amazing, and we had it dialled for the race.

"I was getting pretty angry when it was starting to rain," continued Szoke, acknowledging the threatening pre-race conditions. "I'm a great rain rider, but I knew if we had a dry track, we had the bike." 

 Szoke's BMW actually started to slow in the final turn, and he was barely able to complete his in-lap. The champ suspected a minor electronic glitch. Szoke will carry a 33-point lead into the round 4 double header at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, NS.

Danny O’Brien Dominates For Perfect Night at Brockville

The Inverary, Ont. driver was flawless all night long at Brockville Ontario Speedway as he swept 358 Modified competition to earn his third win of the season at the 3/8-mile oval.

O’Brien was quickest in his time trial group and won his heat race before pulling the second starting spot in the redraw. The No.17d lined-up on the outside of the front row for the 30-lap main event with Lance Willix to his inside. Eventually, O’Brien claimed the point and drove to the win.

“Lance Willix took the lead and for the first eight or nine laps we were back and forth and it was a good race,” O’Brien said. “He got a flat tire and then after we got past halfway it was single-file restarts, so we were good from there.”

O’Brien’s win marks his sixth straight finish of second or better to start the season at Brockville. He has finished either first or second in each start at the Eastern Ontario track and has not finished outside the top-10 in nine starts overall this year.
