The AC Delco/Murray's Iceman Series made their second visit of the season to Clearfield Mountain Speedway Saturday night. It was a wet one as monsoonal rains hit the speedway just as the 25-car starting field was getting lined up on the frontstretch for their 100-lap feature event. The race, which is the farthest away from the series home of Toledo, Ohio (5 1/2 hrs) has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 14.
In qualifying, Scott Baker set a new track record (18.342) breaking Harold Fair's two month old record of 18.377. Fred Campbell, Mike Hennessy, Dave Kuhlman and rookie Alan Pinsonneault, in a career best qualifying effort rounded out the top 5 in qualifying. The remainder of the top 10 were Barry DeSalve Jr, Glenn Gault, Jason Mignogna, Phil Massuch and Len Couvillon. The top eight drivers drew for their starting position with Hennessy pulling the pole position.
The largest Iceman field this season will have to wait two weeks to find out who has the advantage, one of the 15 Iceman series regulars or the 10 Clearfield drivers.
