7th Commonwealth Cup Reset for Nov 21-22

The management of Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway has rescheduled the 7th annual Commonwealth Cup race for Late Models for the weekend of November 21 and 22, giving racers and fans one last big weekend before the winter months set in. Heavy rains washed out the raindate weekend of November 14 and 15. The rescheduled event carries a format quite similar to the one slated for the original Commonwealth weekend.

Originally slated for October 24 and 25, the original Saturday finale was washed out due to many thunderstorms that hit the area that afternoon. The raindate weekend of November 14 and 15 was washed out when light rain hit the area just before Firday's pracitice sessions, and continued well into Saturday afternoon. Sixteen drivers have qualified for the Commonwealth Cup, and are locked in to the main event. However, late model drivers will have Friday and Saturday night to compete for the remaining 8 starting slots in the Commonwealth Cup feature event, which guarantees $1000 to each starter.

Drivers already locked into the Commonwealth Cup main event include Scott Bloomquist, Terry English, Randy Sellars, Rick Aukland, Billy Faust, Brian Birkhofer, Steve Francis, Steve Russell, Jeep VanWormer, Phil Walker, Randy Korte, Joe Morris, Freddy Smith, Steve Casebolt, Tim Brown and John Tindal.

The 50-lap main event is slated for Saturday night November 22. On November 21st, a complete program with late models, modifieds, steel block late models and pure stocks will be presented in a format to that originally scheduled for November 14. A new event, the Bluegrass Shootout for late models will be run as a feature race Friday night paying $2000 to win, and the top two finishers of the Bluegrass Shootout that are not already locked into the Commonwealth Cup feature will be allowed to start 23rd and 24th in Saturday night's big event.

Consolation races for the late models will be run Saturday night, and the remaining six slots for the Commonwealth Cup will be filled from the last chance events.

A full program of racing for modifieds, steel block late models and pure stocks will be presented each night in conjunction with the Commwealth Cup late model festivities.

Tickets for both nights are still available and can be obtained by calling Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway at 270-395-3600, and more information can be obtained at www.klms.com
