Concord: Pole up for grabs

BFGoodrich Tires 250 pole up for grabs at Concord.

Pendleton, IN (April 17, 2003) -- After starting its 36th season of competition with races in Florida and Texas, the ASA Racing Series next does battle on the challenging .50-mile tri-oval at Concord Motorsport Park. The BFGoodrich Tires 250 championship stock car event will commence on Saturday, April 19.

The BFGoodrich 250 starting field will be set with pole qualifying scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Concord Motorsport Park. North Carolina's premier short track hosts the series that is known to build champions for the second time.

In ASA's debut at Concord in May of 2001, Columbus (OH) charger Robbie Pyle won the coveted pole position for the BFGoodrich Tires 300, his first in ASA competition. Pyle toured the .50-mile oval in 15.982 seconds at 112.627 mph to top the 37-car field.

2001 ASA National Champion and Rookie of the Year Johnny Sauter timed in second quickest with Rodney Childers, 1997 ASA National Champion Kevin Cywinski and two-time National Champion Gary St. Amant rounding out the top five qualifiers.

The BFGoodrich Tires 250 at Concord Motorsport Park begins on Saturday, April 19 with practice at 1 p.m. Qualifying is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. with the action at the North Carolina track going green at 9 p.m. (Eastern).
