O'Reilly Auto Parts backs Lorz Motorsports and Garvey at Iowa in May
Pendleton, IN (April 26, 2002) - O'Reilly Auto Parts, entitlement sponsor of the May 19 ASA Racing Series event at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, IA., will serve as the primary sponsor of the number 54 Lorz Motorsports entry in the event. O'Reilly Auto Parts will also be an associate sponsor on ASA veteran Mike Garvey's number 17 car.
Lorz Motorsports Inc. of Midlothian, IL., announces the addition of Dave Mader III as its driver for the event. A long time Alabama resident, Mader, now living in North Carolina, is a second-generation driver who has posted more than 200 feature wins and has driven in the Winston Cup and Busch Grand National Series. He earned a pole in a Grand National event at Dover Speedway and has recorded seven top-10 finishes in the series. He is a four-time All-American Challenge Series (now All-Pro Series) champion.
"To hook up with a driver of Dave Mader's reputation and O'Reilly's is great for this team," said Mike Lorz, part owner and driver for Lorz Motorsports. "It will be new for me after 19 years of myself behind the wheel. We're looking for a change and we wan t to be competitive in ASA. Their program with the tires and engine is something I don't think you can go wrong with. We've got a good young team that has been together a while."
Lorz Motorsports is planning to enter as many as 10 events in the 2002 ASA Racing Series season. They expect most of those to be events in the Midwest or Great Lakes areas.
Mike Garvey is a 13-time winner in his ASA career, including three victories at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. He is currently 14th in championship points following the first three events of 2002. Garvey drives the WJ Plemons Investments entry this season after s pending the previous three campaigns with the LaFavre Racing Teams. He is a two-time winner of the All-American 400 stock car classic. His car will have O'Reilly Auto Parts imagery on the quarter panels.
O'Reilly Auto Parts plans to have a large midway entertainment venue with numerous racing video games for the amusement of fans at the event. Considered one of the top-10 auto parts chains in the United States, O'Reilly Auto Parts today has 901 stores in nine different states, including Iowa.
The O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 presented by STP is the fifth event of the 2002 ASA Racing Series season. The race takes the green flag at 1 p.m. (Central) and will be telecast live on TNN (The National Network).
