ASE DCC Student Challenge highlights April 26 Pepsi Night at South Boston.
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (April 22, 2003)-- Fans looking to quench their thirst for racing action can look no further than the April 26 Pepsi Night at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway. Not only does the evening feature racing from the Late Model Stocks, Sheetz Limited Sportsman, Pure Stocks and Southern Vintage Modifieds, it also includes the fourth annual running of the ASE Danville Community College Tech Prep Student Challenge.
South Boston's last event was plagued by weather, which cancelled the second Sheetz Limited Sportsman race and the Late Model 150. The racing that did occur April 19 on Domino's Pizza Night was action-packed. Jonathan Bailey survived the valiant charges of Chad Mason and Adam Barker to win the Sheetz Limited Sportsman race. Wayne Roach finished fifth and extended his points lead to 16 over Jonathan Cash. Tommy Wooldridge held off Billy Goble for the Pure Stock win in a race that saw Lee Anderson's car slide into turn one on its roof. Wooldridge also leads Goble in the point standings by only four points.
The April 26 Pepsi Night will showcase South Boston's regular racing stars, but it will also showcase racing stars from six area high schools in the ASE Danville Community College Tech Prep Student Challenge. Representatives from Danville, Pittsylvania County and Halifax County high schools will compete in go-kart races. The school that wins the challenge will win a $1,000 prize from ASE. Ralph Warren, interim superintendent for Danville Public Schools, Dr. Jerry Webb, superintendent for Pittsylvania County Schools, Dennis Witt, superintendent for Halifax County Schools and Dr. Carlyle Ramsey, Danville Community College president will also compete in a special VIP race.
Grandstand gates for Pepsi Night will open at 5 p.m. The first 200 fans receive either a Pepsi hat or Pepsi bag. Qualifying begins at 5:30 p.m. The Racing for Kids Challenge for children age four to seven is at 6 p.m., with the ASE Danville Community College Tech Prep Student Challenge at 6:15 p.m. Green flag for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series waves at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, while children nine and under are free. Students pay only $2.50. Rain checks from the April 19 event will be honored.
In 2003, Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway celebrates 46 years of racing excitement and affordable family entertainment.
