Friday night at Autodrome Granby FIFTH WIN FOR DAVE CAMARA

GRANBY, Qué., August 2, 1998 --Dave Camara of Poultney, Vermont, made is a step closer to the modified Molson championship by winning his fifth victory of the season and a second one in a row, last Friday at Autodrome Granby.

Twelfth on the grid, it was not so easy for Camara to take the lead because once again, young Steve Poirier, made the task harder for the points’ leader. On lap 9, Camara had made his way through traffic to find himself second in the shadow of Poirier who was leading since the fourth lap. It took twelve laps to Camara to take advantage of Poirier on a restart after the fourth yellow flag of this 30-lap feature.

After that, Camara was never in trouble. He was able to build himself a comfortable lead. Dominic Dufault who is still seeking for a first success this season, finished second followed by Poirier, Robert Ranger and Todd Stone.

Following this victory, Camara has now increased his lead margin to 34 points on Poirier while with a second place finish, Dufault was able to take the fourth place from Claude Brouillard. Ninth at the start, the Labrador driver was plagued by a flat tire and couldn’t do better than a seventh place.

Earlier in the evening, Alain Boisvert and Luke Plante were the winners in their respective heats.

In the sportsman class, Mario Clair made a comeback in the winner’s circle after leading all the way in the 20-lap feature. It was his second win of the season. Clair had the best on Gerry Patenaude, the defending champion, Éric Sundborg and Louis Bouthillier. Despite this result, Bouthillier was able to increase his leading margin on Alain Mathieu while Clair was able to take back ten points on the margin which separates him from the leader. He is now behind by 70 points.

Stéphane Michaud was able to register his third win so far this season in the late models 10-lap feature race. At the end, he was followed by Jocelyn Roy and Marcel Godbout who was later disqualified after the technical inspection. Daniel Bélanger, the point’s leader was given the third spot.

In the tourism division, Eric Archambault took the checkered flag for the fourth time in 1998 by having the best on Gilles Ostiguy and Pascal Gélineau while in the special women race, Marie-Claude Hébert had the best on her 19 opponents.

Next Friday, it will be the 13th Mister Modified Championship at Autodrome Granby. It will be an important night for the modified drivers who are in contention for the Molson championship.
