HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (October 13, 2001) - The season finale at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway saw two new types of divisions on the track that provided lots of excitement and a taste of some of the new things that will be seen in the 2002 racing season. The Dirt-Style Late Models, as run throughout many dirt tracks in Georgia and South Carolina made an appearance on the asphalt. For some of the drivers it was the first time they had ever raced their cars on the smooth asphalt rather that using the asphalt to tow their cars to a dirt track to race. The "flat sided" Late Models provided close-wheel-to-wheel action in the 50-lap caution-free feature that was won by randy cook of Savannah, Ga. Another vehicle that competed at HMS "out of its element" was the flying lawn mowers from the B.C. Racing team. Normally found on the grass, the highly-modified machines reached speeds nearing 70 m.p.h. on the high banked of the Hardeeville Motor Speedway. Alan Elder of Gainesville, Ga. claimed the victory in the 10-lap main event.

Other winners included Hubert Into from Bloomingdale, Ga. picking up his fourth straight Street Stock feature win. Steven Moore from St. George, S.C. edged out Mark Terry from Rincon, Ga. in the Mini stock main event.

Scott Thorne from Hardeeville, S.C. was once again awarded the feature win when Don Dean of Sheldon, S.C. was failed post race inspection for the second consecutive week. The results are currently unofficial as Dean has appealed the disqualification to Speedway management. A final decision is still pending. Corey Fletcher from Bloomingdale, Ga., who also finished second in the dirt-stlye Late Model feature, won the Pro/Masters Legends Cars feature over Billy Gomez of Fayetteville, Ga.

Garrett Shurling of Ellabel, Ga. led all 25 laps of the Semi-Pro feature but was challenged late by Jonathan Haidon of Hilton Head, S.C. and Thomas Coburn III of Ridgeland, S.C. and Walter Reardon of Savannah, Ga.

Haidon, Coburn and Readon finished second, third and fourth respectively. Billy Schilling of Hilton Head, S.C. won the Legends Cars Young Lions feature and Tish Mock from Ridgeland, S.C. won the Lady Legends division.

Pit Notes: As the racing season concludes, there are still exciting events that will happen at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway in the next few months.

The IPRA Professional Rodeo will visit on Friday and Saturday nights, October 26th and 27th. Seven exciting events featuring bullriding, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc, team roping, steer wrestling, calf roping and barrel racing. Gates open at 5 p.m., exhibition and pre-event activities at 6:30 p.m. and the rodeo begins promptly at 7:30 p.m.

Ticket prices for general admission are $12 for adults with reduced rates for seniors, military and children. Advance tickets on sale for $2 off day-of-the-event prices. The Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles southeast of I-95 (exit 5 in SC) on Hwy. 17. Contact 843-784-RACE or visit www.hardeevillespeedway.com for more information.

The 2002 racing season at Hardeeville Motor Speedway will begin on Saturday night, March 16th with its traditional St. Patrick's Day Spectacular. Special fireworks are scheduled after the racing concludes that evening. 2002 schedules and specification rules for all divisions will be available in the near future.

Although the 2002 season is slated to begin in March, there will still be plenty of activity at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway in the four months with Saturday afternoon trophy-only racing for all divisions from go-karts to Late Models, including everything in between. The afternoon racing begins on Saturday, November 3rd. Plans are currently being finalized for a Thanksgiving weekend event called the "Southern Nationals" for the Legends Cars. Competitors are expected from all over the United States for this two-day event. Final details will be released soon.

For those searching for early-Christmas presents for that special race fan, season tickets for grandstand admission to all race-related events are now available for $195.00 for adults. Junior, senior and military season passes are available for $125.00. After January 1st, 2002, the prices will increase to $225.00 for adults and $150.00 for junior, senior and military passes. Also, the first 100 adult season passes sold will receive a complimentary gift certificate for test driving a Legends Car at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway. The 10-lap test drive is valued at $60.00.
