WOODSTOCK, Ga. (Saturday) Billy Moyer wrapped up the 1997 Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series championship with a victory in the season-ending Hav-A-Tampa Shootout at Dixie Speedway.
Moyer outran a star-studded field to the checkered flag, holding off late-race challenges from runner-up Donnie Moran for a victory worth $49,600. Scott Bloomquist, Rick Aukland and Rick Eckert rounded out the top five. Marshall Green, who started in the last of 13 rows, finished sixth ahead of Mark Miner, Freddy Smith, Dale McDowell and Skip Arp.
The victory was Moyer's 10th in 32 series races and gave him a 188-point final margin over second-place Wendell Wallace, who finished 20th in the Shootout. The race was originally scheduled for Sept. 27, but rain forced the 100-lapper to be delayed two weeks.
