Brent Raymer captures the Greg Ward Memorial 300 at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Brent Raymer from Concord, NC in the #85 Carolina Truck Repair T-Bird won the Greg Ward Memorial 300 at the one third mile Hickory Motor Speedway under cloudy and threatening skies. This is the second National win for Raymer in the Touring Series this season and makes him the fifth different winner for this annual race.

Polesitter Jerame Donley #5 led the first sixty laps under caution due to inclement weather and water seepage from the asphalt surface in turn four. The green flag flew on lap sixty one and National Points leader #20 Chad McCumbee from Supply, NC took the lead away from Donley. McCumbee led Donley, #27 Sam Yarbrough, Raymer, #15 Chase Miller and #7 Mark Howard until the first mandatory stop on lap 100. McCumbee still held the lead until lap 162 when the race was red flagged for a memorial service next door to the speedway. When the race resumed on lap 163, McCumbee continued to lead and Brent Raymer had worked his way into second place followed by Donley, #30 David Ragan and Miller. Raymer took the lead from McCumbee on lap 191 and the two battled with Donley and Miller until a second mandatory stop on lap 200. Raymer held the lead for the restart followed by second place Donley and defending race winner, Mark Howard.

Howard recovered from a spin on lap 156 to move towards the front. He grabbed the lead from Raymer on lap 206 and the two battled side by side for several laps. On lap 230 Raymer regained the lead and held off a late charge by Donley to lead the pack to the checkered flag for the win. Twelve cars finished on the lead lap of the action paced 300 lapper.

The next race for the Allison Legacy Series is a non-points charity event at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Virginia on Saturday, December 14, 2002. This is in conjunction with Martinsville's Souvenir Days. There will be a 30 lap race and a 15 lap Rookie race. Winston Cup and Busch Souvenir trailers are on hand with lots of Christmas presents for fans to buy. This day benefits the needy children of Henry County Virgina and fans bring a toy or cash gift for admission.
