Legendary 1-70 Speedway Joins ASA Racing Member Track Program
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2004) -- Officials of the ASA Racing Member Track program announced today that the Midwest's legendary I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Mo., has joined the program for 2005.
"When one thinks of I-70 Speedway so many great memories come to mind," said Dennis Huth, president of Racing Speed Associates which now owns and operates the ASA Racing Member Track program. "This is one of the most famous short tracks in America and we are thrilled to have them as a Level II participant in the ASA Racing Member Track program this season. The high banking lends itself to the type of exciting action the fans crave, and they don't ever go home disappointed."
The regular divisions include Late Models, Modifieds, Super Trucks, Dash, Super Stocks and Enduro's all of which will be called to the fans by new track announcers of Rob Williams and the legendary "Race Track" Ronnie Williams. These will be augmented by special events including touring series such as the MARS and ASA Late Model Series stock cars, and a "Night of Destruction" with the Monster Trucks and trailer racing.
The track is working on some new additions, hopefully to be finalized this year. They are in the process of adding both a motocross course and a quarter-mile dirt track with a figure 8 through the middle. The track owner, Brad McDonald, indicated that there are several major facility improvements on the drawing board for the 2006 season.
The main draw at I-70 Speedway is the 0.543-mile oval with 30 degrees of banking which has hosted nearly every major sanctioning body at one time or another. Located just 35 miles east of Kansas City on I-70 off exit 41, the racetrack will open on April 2 and run weekly events through Oct. 2. More information on the facility and schedule can be found online at www.I70Speedway.net or by calling (816) 230-0080.
Tracks and regional touring series that join the ASA Racing Member Track Level II program are eligible to receive marketing assistance, enhanced participant accident insurance, and will be the spot for today's fans to watch the stars of tomorrow learn the trade. Huth indicated that he has other exciting ideas and plans to help take the local racing programs to new levels and to further enhance the coverage of the tracks and series competitors.
"I think that he (Dennis Huth) is an ethical and fair guy and has a good head on his shoulders when it comes to short track racing," McDonald replied when asked why he chose to join the ASA Racing Member Track program. "I've been a huge fan of ASA racing all my life, and we considered joining the program last year but never finalized the deal. What Dennis is doing with the (ASA Racing) Member Track program is extremely needed, and the door is wide open for what his program offers to racetracks. I can only see positive things coming from the association."
