IRP date marks first of three stops in Hoosier State.

Pendleton, Ind. (June 10, 2003) -- Making their annual stop at the state-of-the-art Indianapolis Raceway Park, the ASA Racing Series holds the ASA Racing 200 Presented by BFGoodrich Tires on Saturday June 28. This marks the first of three stops in the Hoosier State and the 24th event at IRP, a premier .686-mile oval racing facility.

In the 2002 event at IRP, $50,000 Rookie of the Year winner David Stremme fought off a determined Mike Garvey for the final 50 laps of the Texas Roadhouse 200 Presented by ASI Limited. Stremme assumed the lead on lap 127 when Clanton, in the Camp Fire USA Chevrolet, tangled with two cars at the back of the field on the front straightaway. Clanton was knocked from the lead spot after he spun and brushed the Turn 1 wall.

Clanton opened up a sizable lead over Stremme when Casey Smith (who was the last car on the lead lap) glanced off the front straight wall and came down the track hitting Chad Wood, who collected Clanton causing him to spin. After the crew made repairs, smoke from a left front tire rub was evident on Clanton's No. 83 car, but eventually subsided.

For the final 73 circuits of the event, Garvey looked high and low in an effort to get around Stremme and claim the first position. At one point, Garvey got inside of Stremme entering Turn 3 and appeared to have enough momentum to take the leader when the caution flag waved following a multi-car incident on the back stretch.

The last of eight caution flags set up a five-lap dash to the checkers. With three circuits remaining, Garvey dove to the inside of Stremme with the two bumping off each other down the back straight, but was unable to complete the pass.

Stremme went on to win by .373 seconds over Garvey with North Carolina's Greg Stewart in the Body Balance Pontiac third, followed by seven-time ASA champion Mike Eddy and Danny Edwards Jr. rounding out the top five.

All-time victory leader Bob Senneker has racked up six victories at IRP, ranking first on the charts. Three-time ASA champion Butch Miller has scored four followed by two-time series champion Dick Trickle with three. Both seven-time series titlist Mike Eddy and 1989 Rookie of the Year Scott Hansen have celebrated two wins. Single-event winners at IRP include Don Gregory, Ted Musgrave, Johnny Sauter, Gary St. Amant and David Stremme.

ASA returns to the famed Indianapolis Raceway Park for the ASA Racing 200 Presented by BFGoodrich Tires on Saturday, June 28, with the first of two practice sessions beginning at noon. Pole qualifying is set for 4 p.m. with a fan autograph session and live musical entertainment to follow. The ASA Racing 200 Presented by BFGoodrich Tires goes green at 8 p.m. (Eastern)

Tickets are available through the ASA office at a cost of $25 for general admission seats. Discounts are available when purchasing in advance. For additional information, contact the ASA ticket line at 1-888-ASA-1020 or visit www.asaracing.com.
