Jennerstown Preview

PENDLETON, Ind. -- The ACDelco Challenge Series will make its 14th stop at Jennerstown Speedway in Jennerstown, Penn. on September 11 and 12 for the Pontiac Excitement 400 presented by Jani-King.

The 1998 race saw Mike Eddy end his 49-race winless streak with a victory in the Keystone Country Pontiac Dealers Pontiac Excitement 400. Ironically, Jennerstown was the last race track Eddy won before starting the winless streak. Eddy led the first 101 c ircuits around the .545-mile oval, until fellow Michigan competitor Bob Senneker paced the field. Gary St. Amant, Jack Landis, Tim Sauter and Mike Garvey all spent time showing the way, but the seven-time series National Champion grabbed the point away from St. Amant with five laps remaining and claimed his first victory of 1998. At the checkers, Landis, St. Amant, Garvey and Senneker followed the number 88 Pontiac.

The current national points leader Mike Miller is the only 1999 regular to have won at Jennerstown, taking the checkered flag in October 1996. Other former ASA winners at Jennerstown include stock car greats Senneker, Eddy, Glenn Allen Jr. and Tony Raines . Race winners from this year, St. Amant, Sauter, Garvey and rookie Derrick Gilchrist will all be looking for their first Jennerstown victory.

The race is also the final event in the Jani-King Triple Crown Challenge. The Triple Crown Challenge is a $50,000 bonus which was offered to any driver who could win ASA races at Memphis (TN) Motorsports Park, La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem ( WI) and at Jennerstown. Jimmie Johnson won at Memphis, while Eddy picked up the victory at La Crosse. While neither driver is eligible for the $50,000 bonus, both are eligible for a $10,000 bonus for winning two of the three Jani-King Triple Crown Challeng e races.

Activities for the Pontiac Excitement 400 presented by Jani-King are scheduled to get started on Saturday, September 11 with a two-hour practice session begining at 11 a.m. Wheeler Pontiac Pole Qualifications are set for 3 p.m. with a final practice sessi on slated for 4 p.m.

On Sunday, September 12, the ASA on-track autograph is slated for 11 a.m., with pre-race ceremonies scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The Pontiac Excitement 400 presented by Jani-King is scheduled to go green at 1 p.m.
